The lubricants to be used After translating the oil tables that appear in the Boley Leinen datasheets to ISO grades, and according to my oil dealer, I ended using these oils:
Spindle oil: Renolin MR 1 (ISO VG 5) Gearbox oil: Renolin MR 20 (ISO VG 68) Grease: Krafft Lithium grease NLGI 2 I want to add some notes about lubrication:
Renolin MR is a detergent oil. This helped to clean the gearboxes from the old sludge.
Some months ago I bought an old Boley-Leinen collet closer. The gadget is almost complete but:
It lacks the supporting bars The ball plungers were broken The collet closer levers were broken The cosmetic was not at its best The collet closer as bought The following picture shows the collet closer assembled as usual:
Below, you can see some details of the parts. In the first picture, you can see the closer body.
Which are the collets that uses the Klaiber WS2 tool grinder? I found the answer few days ago while looking at ebay.de. A seller was offering a Klaiber grinder. In the machine pictures there was this one:
It is a 6mm collet for the klaiber. The picture has the answer!! Klaiber collets are of type 317E. It was a non usual collet size. I have not found any provider offering it.
Some days ago appeared in ebay a great Leinen MLZ4SB lathe to sell. The pictures in ebay also showed a manual for the lathe. This model is close to the type of my lathe. Thus, I decided to talk with the seller and to ask him if it is possible to send me a copy of the manual. People at der-gebrauchtwarenhandel, the Ebay seller, where really kind and they sent me a scan of the manual.
I found somewhere the user manual of the Klaiber WS2 and some brochures. Here they are:
Klaiber WS IIa manual (in German) Klaiber WS IIa (mit Automatik) brochure Klaiber WS IIa, examples of use
A new guest The garage has a new guest. It is a small universal tool grinder. A Klaiber WS2 maybe of the last models built by Lechler. Below, there are some pictures. As you can see the overall state is good. Finishing is original. I only appreciated a very slight wear in the table lineal bearings. You guess it: the table of this machine is supported by lineal bearings. I think this is not very usual on Klaiber machines.
I was obsessed with those beautiful optional tailstocks built by Leinen that appear in the lathe parts catalog. An intense surveillance in ebay has given some partial results. The first attempt achieved this nice capstan-handle tailstock that admits the 25 mm 363E collets:
However, although the tailstock is in pretty good condition (just cosmetic issues) it is not appropiate to the Leinen LZ4SB dimensions. It shares the 130mm center height but the bed dimensions are not the same.
I bought in german ebay a four jaws independent chuck with DIN 55022 number 4 fitting. This was not the kind of independent chuck I prefer for the Leinen lathe. I would prefered those kind of “old” chucks which are lighter than the modern ones. Having found no provider for these lighter chucks, finally I went for this one.
The chuck can be seen in this picture:
The chuck was in pretty good condition.
