This is an annotated sketch of the Kaiser Piccolo sliding stop. I drawed it after Erik asked me about. Maybe it could be useful for someone else.
Kaiser Piccolo boring head sliding stop sketch
The Kaiser Piccolo is an exquisitely made mid sized boring head with
boring and automatic facing functions. I got a ISO30 one in a very
nice condition together with a bunch of tooling. When tested it
performed very fine but I couldn’t switch easily between facing and
boring (marked as P and A in the head, maybe for the french «planage»
and «alésage»). It needs to be serviced to cope with this jam.
By some reason I thought since the begining of the overhauling that
the gearbox was in a nice condition. Thus, I didn’t reviewed it. In
fact, I didn’t even emptied the oil. During the overhauling of the
SV13 the time arrived to check the gearbox. I switched the power
on… and the gearbox made an intense rattling noise in some speeds
🤨.
Next step in the SV13 overhauling path has been to end the horizontal
spindle head and mount it into its ways definitively. Some works
remain to be done: finish the fitting of the slideways, clean and
relube the feed screw assembly, do the cosmetic work and finally
inspect and relube if needed the spindle bearings.
In this post I show the result of carrying a sequence of tests to the
rebuild Wörner drilling press to check its accuracy. I took an Aciera
10 drilling machine inspection chart as a reference. Both machines are
of similar size and Aciera quality is second to none.
