The Kaiser Piccolo is an exquisitely made mid sized boring head with boring and automatic facing functions. I got a ISO30 one in a very nice condition together with a bunch of tooling. When tested it performed very fine but I couldn’t switch easily between facing and boring (marked as P and A in the head, maybe for the french «planage» and «alésage»). It needs to be serviced to cope with this jam.
The milling machine Cincinnati-Chomienne FP30 This entry describes the milling machine Cincinnati-Chomienne model FP30. It has served me a number of years but now it’s on sale. Literature on this machine is scarce. I found only manuals for similar Cincinnati-Chomienne machines and a brochure for this machine that shows its main dimensions.
The milling machine is built in France in the late 60’s (acording to the plate the april of 1968).
I bought in german ebay a four jaws independent chuck with DIN 55022 number 4 fitting. This was not the kind of independent chuck I prefer for the Leinen lathe. I would prefered those kind of “old” chucks which are lighter than the modern ones. Having found no provider for these lighter chucks, finally I went for this one.
The chuck can be seen in this picture:
The chuck was in pretty good condition.
The Leinen LZ4SB leadscrew is supported by two bearings. One of them, the corresponding to the adjusting end, has been eroded maybe for a deficient lubrication. This need to be faced again to recover the bearing surface. We plan to do that using a boring head on the milling machine. To support the part in an orthogonal position first an adjusting stud is turned in a lathe. This will guide the bearing when clamped to the table.
