The last step in rebuilding the Schaublin 13 has focused in th electrical cabinet and wiring. The machine has been adapted to ordinary 230V monophasic mains by using VFD’s and all the control circuits have been assumed by the same VFD’s.
By some reason I thought since the begining of the overhauling that the gearbox was in a nice condition. Thus, I didn’t reviewed it. In fact, I didn’t even emptied the oil. During the overhauling of the SV13 the time arrived to check the gearbox. I switched the power on… and the gearbox made an intense rattling noise in some speeds 🤨.
Nothing annoys more to me that a machine loosing oil and spilling it on the floor. Despite this, many machines are designed with not too much attention to this detail and lost oil mechanisms are usual. The Schaublin 13 has also some mechanisms that loose oil by design and some of them spill the oil on the floor.. ugly design I would say.
Next step in the SV13 overhauling path has been to end the horizontal spindle head and mount it into its ways definitively. Some works remain to be done: finish the fitting of the slideways, clean and relube the feed screw assembly, do the cosmetic work and finally inspect and relube if needed the spindle bearings.
The Schaublin 13 longitudinal slide geometry was checked and its ways overhauled. This post explains how it was done.
The Schaublin 13 lubrication pump deserves a service now that there is no oil in circuit and it is easy to disassemble.
